The NHL will soon be announcing two hub cities for its Stanley Cup playoff tournament, and we should know the cities in the next two weeks. Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter John Katsilometes is reporting the league will announce the hub cities on June 22nd.
The finalists for the two hub cities are Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Edmonton, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Toronto, and Vancouver. Katsilometes reported MGM Resorts International is keeping some of its hotel space off the market until the hub cities are announced.
The NHL announced earlier this week that training camp will start on July 10th. We don’t have a start date for the 24-team playoff Gary Bettman announced last month, but the announcement of a training camp date is a big deal. The league initially said it would start no earlier than July 1st. The start of camp on the 10th means the playoffs would likely start a couple weeks later.
Players have been allowed to conduct voluntary, small-group workouts at their home facilities since Monday.
