Marco Rossi is out indefinitely for the Minnesota Wild with an upper-body injury.

Wild coach Dean Evason said Sunday he doesn’t know how long the 19-year-old forward will be sidelined.

“They tell me he’s unavailable,” Evason said. “He’s unavailable for me.”

Selected with the No. 9 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Rossi was in quarantine to join Minnesota’s training camp after playing for Austria at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he didn’t have a point in four games. His last game in the tournament was a 7-0 loss to the Czech Republic on Dec. 31.

Rossi, who signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Wild on Oct. 23, scored 120 points (39 goals, 81 assists) in 56 games for Ottawa of the Ontario Hockey League last season, leading the OHL in assists and points. He is the fifth Austria-born player selected in the first round of the NHL Draft, joining Thomas Vanek (No. 5, 2003), Michael Grabner (No. 14, 2006), Andre Burakovsky (No. 23, 2013) and Marko Dano (No. 27, 2013).

After being drafted, Rossi said he was “100 percent ready” to be a center.

“It’s kind of a delicate balancing act with a young player like that,” Wild general manager Bill Guerin said Dec. 21. “You want him to make the team, you want him to have success right away, and sometimes you kind of let temptation get the better of you and you put him on the team, and it’s not always the best thing. So we want to make sure we do the right thing for him at the right time.

“We’ll just see how he does day by day and make our decision as we go on.”
