NHL contemplating changes to all-star skills format – Sportsnet.ca

With St. Louis hosting the 2020 NHL All-Star Game, there is talk about the NHL potentially making changes for all-star weekend.

Alterations could be made for the skills competition as the NHL wants to boost the “fun” factor for the players.

“Some of these events, they want the players to look like they are having fun, look like they are having a good time,” said Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman during the Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada. “When they are struggling with some of these … They are just concerned that it doesn’t make the players look good.”

There’s also the possibility of St. Louis alumni taking part in the weekend’s events.

“I don’t know if they will participate in the events,” Friedman explained. “But I think they are going to be involved somehow in the overall event.”

The all-star festivities kick off on Jan. 24. The 2020 NHL All-Star Game itself will be played on Jan. 26.
