The UND men’s hockey team was off this weekend, but a couple of its former players were busy reaching NHL milestones.

Zach Parise, who played at UND from 2002-04, became the fourth player in program history to play in 1,000 regular season NHL games, joining James Patrick (1,280), Craig Ludwig (1,256) and Dave Christian (1,009).

Parise reached the milestone Friday during Minnesota’s 3-2 win over Dallas.

Parise played the first 502 NHL regular-season games with the New Jersey Devils and the last 498 with his hometown Minnesota Wild.

For the season, Parise has 20 goals and 34 points in 55 games for the Wild.

Jonathan Toews, who played at UND from 2005-07, reached a milestone on Sunday, tallying his 800th NHL regular-season point. It happened to come in his hometown of Winnipeg.

Toews is the first former UND player to hit 800 NHL regular-season points. Parise is 20 points away from joining him in that club.

Toews, playing on a line with fellow former UND player Drake Caggiula, hit the 800-mark just 15 seconds into Sunday’s game against Winnipeg with a second assist. The Jets won 5-2.

For the season, Toews has 14 goals and 45 points in 55 games.
