The Boston Bruins didn’t take a bus, train or plane to Lake Tahoe. They took a time machine.

The Bruins rolled up to the 2021 Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in some wild 1990s-era dress, and it looked as phenomenal as it sounds.

Bright neon nylon track suits, fanny packs, wild multi-colored caps and even a pair of jerseys from “The Mighty Ducks” movies were on the scene.

The Bruins have had some theme days like this before, but this one gave off a very loud, glow-in-the-dark vibe.

Forward David Pastrnak said it was the idea of captain Patrice Bergeron.

“Bergy, he’s always one step ahead with this kind of stuff,” Pastrnak said. “It was his idea. And we all loved it, so we jumped on board right away. We had some fun ordering the stuff, and walking to the game. It was very fun.”

Forward Trent Frederic, who just turned 23 years old on Feb. 11, wore a shirt from the Los Angeles ska punk band Sublime, who hit it big with their 1996 hit “What I Got,” not that he was aware.

“To be honest I just got it a couple of days ago, I think it’s 90s, I don’t really know,” Frederic said.

The team had some fun with the theme their official Twitter account, going full 90s.

One reference was to the 1994 comedy classic “Dumb & Dumber.” It was no surprise that the line they quoted was spoken in the movie by Bruins great Cam Neely, who made a memorable cameo as Sea Bass.

Also, they snuck some “Saved by the Bell” in there as well.

“We’re just trying to have fun, I can’t say this will be a staple of my wardrobe,” said defenseman John Moore. “We turned to each other when we were walking in and said we better win, because we have to wear (the same outfits) coming out.”

“I loved it,” said Bruins coach ruce Cassidy. “It looks like they dug through my old wardrobe.”

Maybe for the ride back home they can take Mr. Belding’s Miata or the Mutt Cutts van.
